Puyo Puyo Wiki

Puyos are the eponymous creatures of the Puyo Puyo series. They originally appear as enemies in the Madou Monogatari series. Puyos come in five different colors, each with a different expression. When four or more of the same-colored Puyo are connected, they pop or eliminate, and therefore are used as spell fodders in Puyo battles. They are also known to be edible.

Puyos can only be eliminated horizontally or vertically and not diagonally.

According to information included in the home ports of the first Puyo Puyo, the titular game is actually a magic battle driven by the Owanimo spell. Puyos are used to fulfill Owanimo's requirement of four or more similarly-colored creatures.

Puyos are known as P-Kids in Puzlow Kids, Beans in Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, Boulders in Kirby's Avalanche, and Qwirks in Qwirks.

Types of Puyos

Colored Puyos

The main puyos used in playing in puyo battles. Puyo matches are played with three, four or five colors.

Garbage Puyos

Also known as nuisance puyos, Garbage Puyos are generated when an opponent makes a chain. Garbage Puyos serve no purpose except to clog up your field and mess up your chains, hence the name. Garbage Puyos can be cleared by clearing a colored Puyo that touches the Garbage Puyo.

Point Puyos

A Point Puyo is a Garbage Puyo that produces a point bonus for the chain when cleared. These range from 50 points to 1 million points.

Hard Puyos

A Hard Puyo is a stronger version of a Garbage Puyo. Hard Puyos are square or rectangular in order to make them distinguishable from Garbage Puyos or any of the other garbage types. Clearing a Hard Puyo will turn it into a Garbage Puyo which can then be cleared normally. Hard Puyos can also be cleared in one chain by surrounding colored puyos around them.

Iron Puyo

An Iron Puyo is a Garbage Puyo that can't be cleared by normal means.

Sun Puyo

A Sun Puyo is a type of Puyo that plays a major role in Puyo Puyo SUN, and also games that use the SUN rule. Clearing a Sun Puyo increases the amount of Garbage Puyos sent to your opponent, but provides no point bonus to your chain.

Sun Puyos are created by countering the garbage sent by the opponent or performing an all-clear.

Blocks

Block Puyos always stay in the position they are placed at and don't fall when there is space below it. They cannot be cleared by any means.

Bomb Puyo

Introduced in Bomber mode in Puyo Puyo! 15th Anniversary, Bomb Puyos have a timer that explodes upon countdown and turn the colored puyos around it into Hard Puyos.
