Puyo Puyo 7 is the latest game released in the main Puyo Puyo series. It was released in July 2009 for the Nintendo DS and released in November 2009 for the PlayStation Portable and Wii.
It includes a new type of Fever type mode known as Great Transformation, (Henshin), where characters take on child or adult forms, giving them bigger or smaller Puyo respectively.
The game was first brought to life in Feburary 2009 when Sega released a teaser promising a new game of theirs. However, the only clue it brought was a shadow of a girl throwing an apple. It was followed by three more teasers, and finally, the name of the game was realized as Puyo Puyo 7.
It also introduces a new protagonist known as Ringo Andou, named for the game's code name, Project RINGO.
Gameplay
Puyo Puyo 7 includes a few different modes, although no where near the amount as in 15th Anniversary.
- Transformation
- The main focus of the game. You either become a child or become an adult when you enter this mode. When you are a child, your board size increases to 10x18 and becomes similar to Fever mode, with the pre-made chains ranging from a 8 to 30 chain. When you become an adult, your board size decreases to 3x6 and becomes similar to Giant Puyo mode in 15th Anniversary. You keep making chains until your timer runs out, and those chains are added together for a possibility of up to a 99 chain.
- Puyo Puyo
- This mode emulates quite accurately the gameplay of the original Puyo Puyo.
- Puyo 2
- This mode emulates the gameplay of Puyo Puyo 2.
- Fever
- This is Fever mode. It is identical to the mode in 15th Anniversary.
- Mission
- In mission mode, You are given a task which you must complete before your opponents.
